Your Rights and Protections Against Surprise Medical Bills

Effective January 1, 2022, the No Surprises Act was enacted to help protect patients from unexpected medical bills in certain healthcare situations. At Neurolink Chiropractic, we believe in transparency and clear communication, so you understand potential costs before beginning care.
In some healthcare settings, patients may receive services from providers who are not part of their insurance network. This can sometimes result in higher charges, a practice known as balance billing. The No Surprises Act offers protections against balance billing in specific circumstances.
When Are You Protected?
Under the No Surprises Act, patients are protected from balance billing if they:
Receive emergency services, even when care is provided by an out-of-network provider
Receive non-emergency services from an out-of-network provider at an in-network facility, without providing consent to out-of-network charges
These protections are defined by federal law and may not apply to all healthcare services.
Good Faith Estimates for Uninsured or Self-Pay Patients
If you are uninsured or choose not to use insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for your care.
A Good Faith Estimate outlines the expected charges for services based on the information available at the time. This helps you plan ahead and make informed decisions.
You may request a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling care
When possible, estimates are provided in writing at least one business day before your appointment
A Good Faith Estimate is not a bill and does not guarantee final charges
Actual costs may vary depending on the services provided
If you are billed $400 or more above your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the charges through the appropriate federal process.
